Riverton Tournament - Recap

Just wanted to quickly post to congratulate the winner of the BYOC tournament at Rock Creek Pizza in Riverton.  Congratulations go to Perfect!!!  After battling through about 35 players, Perfect was able to overtop Utah's top players, OnEMoReTrY and Pride!  Although the internet connection was about as good as my Muta-Micro, players dealt with the long 3-hour delay in getting the internet up and working and played many games with some serious lag problems.  Despite these issues, the battles continued and a winner prevailed.  Again, congratulations Perfect!

We'd also like to thank Rock Creek Pizza for offering their facilities as well as Utah Game Tournaments for hosting this tournament.  We look forward to many more tournaments like this and hope to continue to have an increase in player attendance.  We encourage everyone to spread the word about these tournaments and direct their friends here for any announcements.

Yay!!!  Versus responded to my request to have the tournament results posted and so here you have it!  It looks like there was a HUGE turnout and lots of success.  I'm starting to sound like a broken record here, but congratulations OnEMoReTrY!  Again displaying why he's #1 in Utah - but not without dropping one game!  That's right folks...he is human and yes, he can lose!  I believe it was Pride who gave him his first loss ever in Utah SC2 tournaments.  So, congratulations also to Pride!  Anyway, here are the results and we hope to see you all soon at the next tournament.

Losers Bracket Tournament
Winners Bracket Tournament

Sorry for the lame upload via megaupload.com, but this is the only way I know!  Any suggestions on how to directly link the .pdf file here?

EDIT:
My apologies for not mentioning or congratulating the winner of the 2nd tournament. As the brackets do not list the winner of the tournaments, we want to congratulate the winner of the 2nd tournament...either oblong or theq. If you know who won this tournament, could you please let me know? Congratulations though to the winners!

EDIT #2 Jan. 1, 2011
Oblong won the 2nd tournament so congratulations to him! And Happy New Year to everyone!

The winner will receive $300 cash! The Tournament is scheduled to begin promptly at 9:00pm, and registration begins at 8:00pm, the first 50 individuals to come in at 8:00pm and pay the entree fee of $10 will get a secured spot, this way first come first served is honored to ensure a fair playing field. This fee is to paid in cash, and no bills above $10 dollars in value will be accepted as no change will be given. Once the fee is paid the competitor must sign a wavier protecting his/her rights and the rights of Utah Game Tournaments and Rock Creek Pizza Co. The rules of play will be thoroughly explained at the tournament right before the first round begins. This tournament requires that all players bring all necessary equipment to play themselves, to put it simply, they must bring everything they would need to play by themselves at home, we will be providing the network switches and internet, but the player must bring everything else, including all necessary cables for them to hook up to the network if they do not have a wireless connection adapter. The final rounds will be commentated on and filmed with Fraps. The tournament should last no more than 3 or 4 hours at the latest.
We sincerely hope to see all of you there. Make sure you let us know on our email that you plan to come, also feel free to ask any questions or express and comments or concerns. Thank you very much.

Let's fill up all 50 spots and have an awesome tournament.  Cold, hard cash doesn't come much funner than this!  Remember, it's BYOC & network cable (if you don't have wireless).  So, spread the word!

p.s.  Can we get someone that will at least give OnEMoReTrY a run for his money?!?!?  :)

Utah's 1st KotH Comes to an End

With nearly 15 people in attendance, this was one of the biggest online turn-outs we've had.  We had many great games with some really great players.  Just wanted to say congratulations to the one and only OnEMoReTry for owning us all and maintaining the top of the hill for most of the night.  He is now crowned Utah's 1st King of the Hill.  Congratulations!!!  Here's the breakdown for last nights matches and all those that attended:

1st Place:  OnEMoReTrY (10 wins)
2nd Place:  Perfect (4 wins)
3rd Place:  Entice (3 wins)
4th Place:  UsA (2 wins)
5th Place:  Ignite & WetSpot (1 win)

Players:  Abstract, Acius, Amandil, Azerbaijan, Cazter, Duessues, Entice, Ignite, MightyBison, OnEMoReTrY, Perfect, Refraction, Vazor, and Wetspot.

Thanks to all those that attended and made this night a success!  We had several maxed out games, so sorry to those that we had to turn down for spectator spots.  We will do this again in the near future, so keep checking back for more information.  WE NEED TO SHOW ONEMORETRY WHAT IT'S LIKE TO LOSE, SO SOMEONE PLEASE STEP UP!!!  :P

Utah King of the Hill #1

This Friday evening, October 29th, starting at 8:00 p.m., we'll be having Utah's 1st King of the Hill tournament online.  The concept is pretty simple:  you win...you keep playing!  We have had several people and their friends interested in participating, so there should be some epic matches.  In the case of a lot of people, we might create 2 brackets and whoever has the most wins from each bracket will face-off in a final best-of-5 (just to make it interesting)!  So, invite whoever you want from whatever bracket and let's play!  We'll be chatting it up on a Ventrilo server, so if you don't already have it downloaded, get it here.

Hostname or IP:  vent94.light-speed.com
Port number: 5898

Or, add Ignite #102 to your friends list.  We'll have a livestream set up for those that would just prefer to watch.  Assuming all goes well, it will be broadcast at www.livestream.com/ignite83.

No prizes will be given and no entry fee is required.

Who:  Everyone (Utahn or not, we'll play anyone!)
Where:  B.net / Ventrilo server
When:  Friday, October 29th, 2010 @ 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time

Hope to see you there!

King of the Hill - Coming Soon!

We are looking to be doing a King of the Hill tournament one of these weekends in the near future.  Obviously, we want to have as many people as possible to make it worth your while.  This will be an online tournament, so no cost to you.  Also, there will be no prize, just bragging rights for maintaining the top for the most games.  If you want to participate, please respond to this post or send an email to starcraftutah@gmail.com.  If we can get a lot of people, we'll have 2 separate games going on at the same time.  If you are in the platinum, gold, silver, or bronze league - no worries!  Get all your buddies that are in similar leagues and we'll have a King of the Hill - Platinum/Gold/Silver/Bronze/Tin/Aluminum...you get the idea!  Anyway, let us know if you're interested!!!

All-Night Friday Night @ Versus

Versus Gaming will be hosting an all-night gaming party this Friday night, September 24 for $15 plus free doughnuts!  Now, if the free doughnuts and all you can handle Starcraft 2 isn't a big enough incentive to go, I don't know what is!  If we could get enough players to show up, maybe we could do a small single elimination tournament.  So, if you are interested in this Friday's all-nighter, please post a comment here or send and email to starcraftutah@gmail.com and let the friendly fights begin!  No prizes will be awarded if a tournament does happen, just bragging rights!

And That's A Wrap

Well, with the largest Starcraft 2 tournament in Utah completed, we can all take a sigh of relief and throw out a huge THANK YOU to Versus!  I think we can all agree that this tournament was very well organized and was an overall success!  With nearly 50 players in attendance from all over the state and some of the most well-mannered SC2 players I've seen, there is no doubt this tournament was one to remember.

A huge congratulations go out to the top 3 finalists.  Coming in at 3rd place, fro and all, BRoll!  Proving himself to be one of the best Protoss players in Utah, BRoll "tossed" away his competition and walked away with the 3rd place prize!
Rolling in and taking home the 2nd place prize, BloodyWave.  This Zerg player showed his skills and proved to everyone that he was worthy of the 2nd place position.  He could have "creeped" up on you since his last appearance at the tournament held during the beta.
And finally, taking home the grand prize and, yet another tournament victory under his belt:  OnEMoReTrY.  This would be his 3rd 1st place finish in 3 tournaments held here in Utah.  This Terran player is all business and has skills yet to be matched by anyone.  He's never lost a game through any of the rounds in any of the tournaments in Utah.  From the beta, to GEEX, and now at Versus, OnEMoReTrY has proven why he is at the top of Utah's leader board.  We could all agree that he's "terran" it up in SC2!!!  He has now set the bar for all Utah players.  Can anyone beat this crazy-good Terran player?  Who will be the first to give him a single loss?  Only time will tell!  Until then...game on and congratulations to all the winners and a huge thanks to all the players that attended and especially to Versus Gaming for allowing us to play!

The final brackets will be posted soon as well as the official Utah Ladder point system.  Keep checking back for updates as well as an announcement on the next upcoming tournament!

Friday Night Pre-Tournament Tournament

For all those interested, we will be having a mini tournament this Friday, September 10 @ 9:30 p.m.  This will be an online, best-of-3 single elimination tournament.  This is just to get everyone hiped for Saturday's tournament at Versus Gaming and a good way to get a feel for people's play styles.  If you are interested in participating in this mini tournament, please comment here or send an email to starcraftutah@gmail.com and leave your Bnet ID & character code #.  We will be using a Ventrilo server to announce the matchups and might be showing some of the matches through a livestream link.  Here is the Ventrilo server information:

HOST:  vent94.light-speed.com
Port: 5898
Password: utah (it is case sensitive)

We will be in one of the 2 private channels, so just look for one with lots of people in it!  For those of you who don't have Ventrilo, please email your Bnet ID & character code # to starcraftutah@gmail.com and we'll get you in touch with your opponents!
So...sign up or show up for a fun night of gaming!  There is no prize for this tournament - just a fun time!

It's Official!

You know that feeling you get when some random noob proxy gates you and you hold if off with the most excellent micro?  You know what I mean...that huge grin you get on your face and the huge sigh of relief when you see that "gg" and your lame opponent vanished into the deep, dark depths of Bnet 2.0?  Well, that's the same feeling you're going to get when you win the Official Utah Starcraft 2 Tournament at Versus Gaming on September 11th @ 3:00 pm (except your opponent won't magically vanish into the blues of Bnet 2.0; you'll have to probably stand up, shake hands, hug maybe, and congratulate each other).  Bring your 20 bones and free up your afternoon, because this tournament is going to be epic!  With over $200 in prizes, this opportunity is way too good to pass up.  So, spread the word and invite everyone and their dog (and their dog's dog).

Check out  the official flier above provided by Versus Gaming for more details and directions to their place.  Email info@versusgamingcenter.com with any questions you may have.  This is going to be an event you won't want to miss!

Ahh! You scared me!

Welcome, welcome, welcome! I've decided to set up this blog in hopes to bring the Starcraft 2 community here in Utah together! You'll be surprised at just how many people play this game. During the beta, a 16-player tournament was held at Versus Gaming Center in Provo. Due to the donation of a generous player, the winner walked away with 50 bones. In early July, the thought of having a Starcraft 2 tournament at the GEEX expo was just a wish. When would phase 2 of the beta return? Luckily, just in time! The tournament organizers at GEEX quickly threw together a tournament and Starcraft 2 was well represented. This blog is intended to inform the Utah community of any updates and local tournaments that are occuring right here.

I am hoping to announcement any local tournaments or public LAN parties that anyone wants to host. Due to real life commitments, I can't garauntee I will be the most diligent at participating in tournaments. However, I do feel like I can find the time to at least post tournaments and updates on here and keep the community informed. If you are interested in helping out with any blog posts or tournament organizing, please feel free to contact me. I will do all that I can to get the competitive scene rolling and to keep it interesting. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please, let me know! I'd love to hear your ideas. I've got a few in mind and wouldn't mind running it by someone else to see what they think. So, again, if you'd like to have a hand in Starcraft Utah, please contact me. I don't have much skills in graphic design, so decorating this site wouldn't be my fortee. If you have any skills at graphic design and would be intersted in helping this site look as professional as possible, please contact me @ starcraftutah@gmail.com
